Covered the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan over Nagorno Karabakh since visiting for The Independent in 1994 and assisted Thomas de Waal with Black Garden: Armenia and Azerbaijan Through Peace and War. Contributor on the South Caucasus to Routledge/Europa's Eastern Europe, Russia and Central Asia annual publication since 2010.

In October 2012 presented work on social media in conflict resolution at a seminar organized by the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) in Dublin. In February 2013 an expert speaker at an intergovernmental seminar on evaluating methods to combat violent extremism in Abu Dhabi organized by the Center for Strategic Counterterrorism Communications (CSCC), Global Counterterrorism Forum (GCTF) and Hedayah Center.
In November 2013 organised Canal France International's 4M Journalism and Social Media forum for Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Georgia. In June 2014 was part of a closed expert working group convened by The International Centre for CounterTerrorism -- The Hague and Hedayah Center to develop an effective counter-narrative framework to combat Al-Qaeda and other violent extremist groups. In December 2014 spoke at the CVE Expo in Abu Dhabi co-organised by Hedayah and the GCTF.
